আল-বিদায়া ওয়ান নিহায়া একটি সুবৃহৎ ইতিহাস গ্রন্থ। প্রখ্যাত মুফাসসির ও ইতিহাসবেত্তা আল্লামা ইবনে কাসীর (রহ) গ্রন্থটির রচয়িতা। গ্রন্থটিতে মূলত সৃষ্টির শুরু তথা আরশ, কুরসী, নভোমন্ডল, ভূমন্ডল প্রভৃতি এবং সৃষ্টির শেষ তথা হাশর-নশর, কিয়ামত, জান্নাত, জাহান্নাম প্রভৃতি সম্বন্ধে বিশদ ব্যাখ্যা করে আলোচন করা হয়েছে। ইসলামের ইতিহাস ও সংস্কৃতি সম্পর্কে স্পষ্ট ধারণা পাওয়া যাবে এ বইটি থেকে।
ইসলামী ইতিহাস যারা চর্চা করেন তাদের মধ্যে মৌলিক ও নির্ভুলতার কারনে এ গ্রন্থটি বিশ্বস্ত । মুসলিম বিশ্বে বইটির ব্যাপক জনপ্রিয়তার কারনে আরবী ভাষার পাশাপাশি বিভিন্ন ভাষায় অনূদিত হয়েছে। বাংলাদেশ ইসলামি ফাউন্ডেশন আল বিদায়া ওয়ান নিহায়া গ্রন্থটি সর্বমোট ১৪ খন্ডে বাংলা ভাষায় অনুবাদ করেছে। বাংলা ভাষায় প্রকাশিত গ্রন্থটির বাংলা নামকরণ করা হয়েছে ইসলামের ইতিহাস আদি-অন্ত। এর ফলে ইসলামের ইতিহাস বই এর অভাব বেশ কিছুটা পূরণ করেছে।
আল্লামা ইবনে কাসির “আল বিদায়া ওয়ান নিহায়া” গ্রন্থটিকে তিনটি ভাগে বিভক্ত করেছেন।
প্রথম ভাগ: আরশ, কুরসী, ভুমন্ডল, নভোমন্ডল এতদুভয়ের অন্তবর্তী সব কিছু তথা ফেরেশতা, জিন, শয়তান, আদম (আ)-এর সৃষ্টি, যুগে যুগে আবির্ভূত নবী-রাসুলগণের ঘটনা, বনী ইসরাঈল, ইসলাম-পূর্ব যুগের রচনাবলী এবং মুহাম্মাদ (সা)-এর জীবন-চরিত আলোচনা করা হয়েছে।
দ্বিতীয় ভাগ : রাসুল (সা)-এর ওফাতকাল থেকে ৭৬৮ হিজরী সাল পর্যন্ত সুদীর্ঘ কালের বিভিন্ন ঘটনা এবং মনীষীদের জীবনী আলোচনা করা হয়েছে। তাছাড়ােএই অংশে খলিফা, রাজা-বাদশাহদের উত্থান-পতনের ঘটনা, মনীষীদের বর্ণনা, সামাজিক, রাজনৈতিক ও অর্থনৈতিক বিষয়ের বিস্তারিত বিবরণ ও আলোচানা করা হয়েছে।
তৃতীয়ভাগ : ফিতনা-ফাসাদ, যুদ্ধ-বিগ্রহ, কিয়ামতের আলামত, নাশর-নশর, জান্নাত-জাহান্নামের বিবরণ ইত্যাদি।
তৃতীয় অংশে লেখক মুসলিম উম্মাহর অশান্তি ও বিপর্যয়ের কারণ, ভবিষ্যতে অনুষ্ঠিতব্য মানবজাতির মধ্যে সংঘাত, অশান্তি, বিপর্যয়, ফিতনা-ফাসাদ, যুদ্ধ-বিগ্রহ, কিয়ামতের আলামত, পুনরুত্থান, হাশর-নশর, কেয়ামত দিবসের ভয়াবহ অবস্থা, জান্নাত ও জাহান্নামের বিবরণ বিশ্লেষন করেছেন।

The beginning of the creation of this book is discussed in terms of arsh, kursi, the heavens, the earth, and the last of the creations of the Hashor-Noshor, Kiyamat, Jannat, Jahannam etc.
